I've always been fairly religious with my emergency fund and last night, to my horror, I managed to lose my wallet on the subway. That wallet contains my monthly train ticket and metro card for the NY MTA.

If I was living paycheck to paycheck I'd be almost $400 in the hole (including the cash I was carrying) and completely lost.

I don't expect to see my wallet or personal affects ever again, and I have to pay to get expedited shipping for my credit card replacement and replacement drivers license. But I'm not panicking, just mad at myself for being so careless. Just wanted to toss my story on top of the pile of reasons to keep an emergency fund for everyone!

Now I'm off to get cash and replace my life bit by bit. DMV here I come...
