So, we have this entryway from the front 'mudroom' (an addition) to the living room that was originally part of the exterior wall so has no studs. There might be furring, but I suspect it’s just drywall with no support, possibly glued together at the seams with old tiles (the original owner of this house was………. A special kind of DIYer). There’s cinder block, possibly (hopefully but I hold out no hope with this house) with a concrete lintel, and pocket doors had been framed against the cinder block and are now part of a false wall, that can’t come down (we’d have to tear down half the living room because of how it’s installed). There’s a good 6” between the false wall and the cinder block as a result (and they furred out the other side of the wall the same way, because why the hell not?!)I’d just use the framing for the pocket doors and put in new doors, but it’s obvious they covered them up because it’s: only 5’10” high so won’t fit a standard door, and the rail will never let a door hang correctly because it was kind of haphazardly suspended from an older wooden sliding door frame, that was in turn just suspended across the opening, attached to nothing but either end of the opening…I think the simplest approach is to just cover the pocket doors and crappy rails back up with trim and do something like here: http://ift.tt/2hNHmbm. Is there some modification I can do since there are no studs, to make this work? Maybe some kind of drywall anchor that’d work well for just holding the pipe in place so the door rolls smoothly and can’t be knocked over by pets, but doesn’t actually have to hold up the door? Thanks for any help! via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2ix4MpD
