I got Panera for lunch today because I like their company and occasionally like to treat myself to their mac and cheese. I also ordered a large coffee. Their coffee cups are paper/wax and their lids are plastic. I really don't need a lid to sit in here, so I filled my cup about 4/5s and walked away, lidless.
An employee stopped me and asked me if they were out of lids, I said no, I just don't need one. Got looked at like a crazy person.
Sitting at my table, another employee came over and asked me if I needed a lid. I said no, I just don't need one. She mumbled and walked away awkwardly.
The manager walked around, asked everyone how their melas were, etc. I said everything was fine, mac and cheese is great, and I was good, thank you. An employee comes over a few minutes later with a lid for me because "boss said we must've been out, I'm so sorry..."
Goddamn! I'm not as fully committed to simple living as a lot of you guys, but I don't take what I don't need. Apparently this is unheard of.
Keep on keeping on and refusing lids, everyone!
