I am a single teacher with a meager annual salary. I claimed 0 exemptions, as I always do. I just plugged my info into 2 different tax filing websites and discovered that I OWE nearly $1000 in federal taxes. How is this even possible? How can a person claiming no exemptions not have things covered? How is it legal for the irs to take out less on my paychecks than what I actually owe? What is the point of claiming 0 if I'm still going to owe an insane amount of money? What happened??
*****EDIT: Holy crap you guys, I figured it out. I entered the wrong code for my HSA so it wasn't deducting that amount. I feel like a total fart. I'm sorry.
