Hi r/frugal, not sure if this is where I should post this, pretty new to Reddit still but here's the thing
Living in Australia, and for the last six months I was living with a guy and his girlfriend He and I were on the lease, and then she basically moved in without my knowing/consent, our bond was $1200 (split 2 ways for $600 each) The power bill was in my name and we split that 2 ways (I tried to convince them to split it 3 ways so his girlfriend would pay for living in our house to no avail) Turned out later I found out that he and she were splitting rent of $300 a fortnight between the two of them while I was stuck paying $300 a fortnight myself (I expected to pay $300 a fortnight but that was expecting to live with one person)
Anyway, we moved out and he put his name and account down for the rental bond board to pay out our bond which was the complete $1200 Our last power bill was $840.21, and we sorted the water out before moving out. Since moving out, I've contacted him several times about my half of the bond and his half of the power bill (totalling $1020). It took two months for him to send me my bond money and then he blocked my number, blocked me on Facebook etc and I haven't been able to contact him about the power bill money still.
My last message to him was "Hi mate, still haven't heard back from you about the $420 power bill money." To which he replied "I don't owe you any money"
Documents I have that might be of use are the lease agreement showing that he lived at the house the same time as me as well as the power bill itself, showing the dates
Should I call a debt collector? What are your thoughts? Please help
Thanks
Tldr: ex-housemate owes me $420 and he has blocked all communication from me and I don't know who to talk to about it.
