I'd never bought good leather boots before, but I'd seen Wolverine 1000 Mile recommended by a blogger I trust, so when I saw them at DSW for half price I was stoked. But, as you can guess from the title of the post, they weren't really 1000 Mile boots at all. even though the sign clearly said Wolverine 1000 Mile, they were actually Wolverine "Reese" boots, a "DSW Exclusive" (i.e. cheap chinese boot with bad materials and bad construction).

within two weeks they'd fallen apart on me. the faux welt came apart - which can't happen with real 1000 Miles, because they have a real Goodyear welt. but I didn't know that at the time. took it to a few repair shops, and they said it wasn't possible to fix without it just coming apart again.

so I sent it back to wolverine, and didn't hear anything for weeks. so I contacted them, and got a call back that they couldn't get me the same model because they were a "DSW Exclusive" and that they couldn't swap them for another model of 1000 Mile because they weren't 1000 mile to begin with. fortunately I was able to swap them with a pair that's at least full-grain leather, made in the USA, with a Goodyear welt, but they're still not 1000 Mile Boots, which is what I wanted to buy all those moons ago.

I went back and, lo and behold, they're still selling cheap chinese Wolverine boots as 1000 Mile. slightly different model, but still not 1000 Mile. it's unfortunate of Wolverine to lend their name to cheap chinese boots, but it's absolutely deceptive of DSW to advertise them as 1000 Mile Boots.

I apologize for the rant. But as you can imagine, having $200 "1000 mile boots" fall apart on me after two weeks, and then finding out they were never even 1000 mile boots at all, is really frustrating.

P.S. my pebble tracks my movement, and for kicks and giggles I went back and checked - I walked a total of 121 miles from when I purchased the boots to when I put in my claim.
