Often times you see people reference how much money X company has "in cash". 1) Where does this number come from/where is it found and 2) what significance does it hold?
I ask because often times you see stuff like "$XYZ has $5/share in cash, but it's only trading at $3/sh" and I don't really understand how that can be
Excluding extreme situations (like a company was just found guilty of fraud, just discovered their product causes cancer, etc, etc.) If $XYZ has a bank account with $300M in it, how can its market cap only be $200M?
