I took a backpacking trip through Central America and by the end of it realized virtually everything is negotiable. We asked for discounts on hotel rooms and got them, asked for discounts on rentals (kayak, boogie boards, etc.) and got them, asked for discounts from tour guides and got them. Taxis, drinks, souvenirs, etc was all the same; just ask if they can do it for less and most of the time the answer was "yes". This got me wondering if I could apply this same logic in the US. Have any of you had success negotiating discounts for products or services in the US where negotiating is not the norm?
