Background:

  • 22 Years old, graduated in 2016 studying IT.
  • Currently living at home with parents in NJ, working in NYC.
  • Working for a startup (>20 employees) as a project manager for the past 3 months. Pay is 60k, Unlimited PTO, half healthcare coverage, no 401k.

Our startup provides software for other companies and I was placed at a fairly prestigious law firm (700+ employees) to manage a project. Last week, after working on the project for around 3 months (my first project with this startup), the CIO of the law firm directly asked me if I wanted to work for them in pseudo tech support style capacity. The pay would be 80-90k, ~3weeks PTO, Healthcare coverage, and 401k provided.

Questions:

  • Will going from project management to a glorified tech support position restrict my career in the future? I ultimately want to do management in IT/Engineering. Is this move fine for my future career aspirations? I'm strongly leaning towards accepting it.

Any insight would help!
