Recently I went to a social event and I surprised myself by not buying any drinks at all at the venue. I just made one mixer drink at home beforehand. Nobody noticed that I wasn't drinking, and you know what? I ended up having a great time. I laughed along with the people with drinks in their hands. I've noticed that not needing a lot of alcohol to enjoy social situations has saved me some real money. I've had spendy nights in the past where i'd drop over $100 for a night's worth of drinks. No more of that.

Which leads me to new years eve. Earlier, i'd debated with myself, should I bite the bullet and buy tickets to something? It could be good. It could also be overrated, and totally underwhelming.

Then my husband brought up the idea of going to a local park by the beach to photograph the fireworks. We did that, and it was beautiful. The beach was pitch black, but there was a stillness, a freedom being outdoors with nothing but dotted lights in my vision. The experience was totally free. I brought my speakers too to give the outing a soundtrack. At that point in time, I didn't envy the people shoehorned into expensive clubs. Life, wherever it was, was great.

Earlier on at Christmas our family did a secret santa with a maximum spend limit. It worked out great.
