I wanted to get y'alls' opinion and figure out if I should pay this company.

A couple months ago I was driving back to the rental car company on the highway and a stray pebble chipped the windshield of the rental I was driving. Nothing crazy. Just a small chip the size of your thumb with a 2 inch crack. When I told the attendant what happened, he said it was no big deal, and that it happens all the time. The rental car company would chalk it up as routine wear-and-tear of a car in their fleet. I left in relief.

Fast forward to today, they've decided to send me bill for $600 for the damage. I have rental protection through my credit card, which I used to rent the car, but I am beyond the period in which you report any damage. Thus, they're not going to cover the cost.

I'm afraid the rental car company is going to ding my credit score, so I'm not sure if I should pay it. What do you guys think?

Big lesson to anyone that uses credit cards for rental car protection, e.g. Chase Sapphire, report any damage that happens to the credit card company the day of!
